Bust That Stash!

Quick little post, while it’s storming out:)  I’m working on my scrap bucket trying to make room, so I can go shopping for some new fabric….imagine that;)  Bucket is half empty already!

Got this idea from the quilt shop, Pine Needles, I work at part time.

These scrappy coasters are a great way to get rid of excess scraps.  All you need are 1.5 inch strips of fabric and reinforced cotton clothesline.  Simply wrap your strips around the clothesline and start winding it in a circular  manner.  I set my zigzag stitch to a width of 5mm.  Keep stitching, catching both sides of the clothesline.  Keep going around until you reach your desired circumference.  I make mine 4.5 inches wide.  Hope you try it and enjoy it:)

Following The Pattern Is BORING!

Finished the little purse from my last post, and I think it turned out darn cute…..if I do say so myself;) It’s my version of the ‘Sonoma Swing Bag’ by Pink Sand Beach Designs.  I think following a pattern to a ‘T’ is boring and with a few simple changes and your imagination, you can make a pattern look totally different. I did my own thing for the bag body design.  This is a great, easy to read pattern with lots of pictures to take you through the process:)

You’ll have to pardon the ‘Run DMC’ t-shirt.  I really need to find a classier outfit for Matilda;)IMG_0022

Also running a spring cleaning sale in my shop!!!  Be sure to check it out.  Just use coupon ‘HEATITUP’ at checkout to get 40% of a $20 or more purchase.

Next time you are making something from a pattern, I challenge you to make it your own!  Work outside the box, change it up, and use your imagination!  Chances are, you’ll LOVE the outcome:)

I think you’ve all had enough blog ‘spamulation’ for one week!  Hope to get another post up next week:)  Have a great week everyone!

Sewing Up A Bag, And My Finger….

Had a late night date with my sewing machine last night.  Seems like that is the only good time lately;)  Well, I’m a ‘balls to the wall’ sewer.  When your tired, this does not tend to work well.  I ended up sewing right through my finger breaking the needle off  in it.  Ended up having to pull out what was left of the needle and thread.  Anyways, I ended up getting a cute bag front done last night.   Got the front and back quilted and embroidered my favorite design from OESD on the front. (it’s a freebie right now, so hop over and download it for yourself!)   Hope to have it done tomorrow:)  The shiny stabilizer comes off, so it won’t have that plastic look.

I joined Instagram this last summer and found it to be a fun smartphone app!  It’s a super easy and fun way to show off your pictures.  I post a lot of my little projects and life pics there.  To follow, download the app on your smart phone.  You can follow me @sarahsfabcreations.  Hope to see you there!

Hope you have a great week!

Much Needed Break…..Coming Right Up:)

For those of you that follow my Facebook page, I announced about a week ago that I wouldn’t be taking any more custom orders until September.  Well, I just sent off my last order, and I am soooooo ready for a break! My Etsy shop will still be open, though. All the special orders were taking so much time away from my family.  We have a full agenda of fun family activities this summer.  Can’t wait:)

I will also have a little extra time to weed through my growing pile of fabric.  It’s one of the hazards of working at a quilt shop, but I LOVE it!  I do have to say, that it has been a fun 2nd job to have:)

Do You Get Excited When A Box Comes In The Mail???

I don’t know about you, but I do!  Went to the mailbox today when I got home and found this box.  I couldn’t remember ordering anything big enough for a box this size.  I assumed it was my husband’s………but WAIT!!  It had MY name on it!  Wanna see what it was?

I just know it’s going to be super exciting!!!!!

It was kinda light, hmmmmm.

Seriously?!?!?  This is it?  Dang it!

Talk about grossly over packaging something!  Oh well, figured you all might get a kick out of this;)

Had Such High Hopes For This……

Ever have one of those projects that looks really cool when someone else does it? Attempt it yourself, and it turns out like a big pile of poo!  Here’s mine:

IMG_0001It WAS supposed to look perfect…..like on the cover.  First off I didn’t read the directions ALL the way through, so I ended up having to do it the ‘hard’ and soooo verrryyyy slooooooow way.  Needless to say, hardly any of the blocks turned out the same size, and of course, they didn’t line up correctly when sewing the rows together.  Ick!

Since I’m doing some things out of my comfort zone, I decided to try my hand at a pair of pants……..(insert your hysterical laughter here)  Hehe!

IMG_0005

I’ll be sure to show a pic of the finished product……if it doesn’t make me look like I have a ‘bubble butt’:)  These also look awesome in my head, so we will see……….Ha!  Have a great week!!!

Don’t consider myself a quilter, but I think this is going to turn out cute…..maybe?? There are obviously more blocks and the black barcodes fabric will be the backing. Hope to have the top done soon to show:)
