Lordy! It’s Been A Long Time!

WOW!  It has been 2 1/2 months since my last post!  This summer has been a complete blur.  Between working 2 jobs, traveling, and taking up a new hobby, there is just no spare time;)  I have however managed to clean up and clear out quite a few unfinished projects that have been sitting in the sewing room!  Here are a few pics; details in the links.

Winter Runner

Leaf Runner

Batik Flower Runner

Baby Security Blanket

Groovy Guitars Quilt

Batik Pine Cones Quilt

Well, these mostly got completed after dark, after the kids went to bed, yadda, yadda, yadda.  You get the picture:)

The next few pictures are from what my husband and I took up as a new hobby this summer.  It pretty much consumes every weekend from sunrise to sunset!  It’s something we NEVER thought we’d do, much less do it together;)

Skydiving has quickly become one of the most enjoyable things we have ever done!  The people at Southern Minnesota Skydiving have got to be one of the best groups of people to hang with!  As soon as we showed we were ready to stick out the license program, they took us in just like family:)

Hope you all had an awesome fun filled summer!  What did you do for fun?  Travel, stay home and relax?  I wanna know!

Which Of These Hobbies Doesn’t Belong?

Earlier this year, my husband and I were talking about things that were on our bucket list.  Well, skydiving was one of them.  He called one of the local drop zones and scheduled a tandem jump.  I ended up chickening out, but he went ahead and did his.  Long story short, he loved it.   I ended up doing a jump also on a later date. It was one of the BEST decisions I made!

The only problem is, it makes the rest of my hobbies seem ridiculously boring;)

I thought after I took the class and got my first solo jump in, I’d be done with the whole thing.  WRONG!  The adrenaline rush is like a drug you can’t get out of your system;) You just want more and more!  Other than being ridiculously terrified climbing out of the plane for the first time, it’s a total ‘mind over matter’  situation.  You just make yourself do it.  The hubs and I are both working on getting our license by the end of summer.  Then the really fun stuff begins!

Hope you all are having a great summer so far!

(btw…..the orange parachute in the above picture is me coming in to land on my very first solo jump:)

Bust That Stash!

Quick little post, while it’s storming out:)  I’m working on my scrap bucket trying to make room, so I can go shopping for some new fabric….imagine that;)  Bucket is half empty already!

Got this idea from the quilt shop, Pine Needles, I work at part time.

These scrappy coasters are a great way to get rid of excess scraps.  All you need are 1.5 inch strips of fabric and reinforced cotton clothesline.  Simply wrap your strips around the clothesline and start winding it in a circular  manner.  I set my zigzag stitch to a width of 5mm.  Keep stitching, catching both sides of the clothesline.  Keep going around until you reach your desired circumference.  I make mine 4.5 inches wide.  Hope you try it and enjoy it:)

Following The Pattern Is BORING!

Finished the little purse from my last post, and I think it turned out darn cute…..if I do say so myself;) It’s my version of the ‘Sonoma Swing Bag’ by Pink Sand Beach Designs.  I think following a pattern to a ‘T’ is boring and with a few simple changes and your imagination, you can make a pattern look totally different. I did my own thing for the bag body design.  This is a great, easy to read pattern with lots of pictures to take you through the process:)

You’ll have to pardon the ‘Run DMC’ t-shirt.  I really need to find a classier outfit for Matilda;)IMG_0022

Also running a spring cleaning sale in my shop!!!  Be sure to check it out.  Just use coupon ‘HEATITUP’ at checkout to get 40% of a $20 or more purchase.

Next time you are making something from a pattern, I challenge you to make it your own!  Work outside the box, change it up, and use your imagination!  Chances are, you’ll LOVE the outcome:)

I think you’ve all had enough blog ‘spamulation’ for one week!  Hope to get another post up next week:)  Have a great week everyone!

Sewing Up A Bag, And My Finger….

Had a late night date with my sewing machine last night.  Seems like that is the only good time lately;)  Well, I’m a ‘balls to the wall’ sewer.  When your tired, this does not tend to work well.  I ended up sewing right through my finger breaking the needle off  in it.  Ended up having to pull out what was left of the needle and thread.  Anyways, I ended up getting a cute bag front done last night.   Got the front and back quilted and embroidered my favorite design from OESD on the front. (it’s a freebie right now, so hop over and download it for yourself!)   Hope to have it done tomorrow:)  The shiny stabilizer comes off, so it won’t have that plastic look.

I joined Instagram this last summer and found it to be a fun smartphone app!  It’s a super easy and fun way to show off your pictures.  I post a lot of my little projects and life pics there.  To follow, download the app on your smart phone.  You can follow me @sarahsfabcreations.  Hope to see you there!

Hope you have a great week!

Much Needed Break…..Coming Right Up:)

For those of you that follow my Facebook page, I announced about a week ago that I wouldn’t be taking any more custom orders until September.  Well, I just sent off my last order, and I am soooooo ready for a break! My Etsy shop will still be open, though. All the special orders were taking so much time away from my family.  We have a full agenda of fun family activities this summer.  Can’t wait:)

I will also have a little extra time to weed through my growing pile of fabric.  It’s one of the hazards of working at a quilt shop, but I LOVE it!  I do have to say, that it has been a fun 2nd job to have:)

IMG_20130427_104541Do you have any big plans for the summer?  Would love to hear about them!

Do You Get Excited When A Box Comes In The Mail???

I don’t know about you, but I do!  Went to the mailbox today when I got home and found this box.  I couldn’t remember ordering anything big enough for a box this size.  I assumed it was my husband’s………but WAIT!!  It had MY name on it!  Wanna see what it was?

I just know it’s going to be super exciting!!!!!

It was kinda light, hmmmmm.

Did they forget to put something besides bagged air in the box??

Seriously?!?!?  This is it?  Dang it!

Talk about grossly over packaging something!  Oh well, figured you all might get a kick out of this;)
